If you want to split hairs, the term ‘hydraulic lifting platform’ is not entirely correct. It must actually be called an electro-hydraulic lifting platform. This term immediately identifies the type of drive used for the lift table.

The lifting movement

The actual lifting movement is performed by the hydraulic cylinder. These are arranged inside the scissors structure so that the extending movement of the hydraulic cylinder is matched by the lifting movement of the platform. The cylinder itself is powered by means of a hydraulic pump (e.g. a gear pump). This in turn is powered by a small electric motor.

The lowering procedure

In contrast to the group of mechanical lift tables, the great advantage of hydraulic lifting platforms is that the drive need not be activated for the lowering. The lowering movement is brought about solely by the weight of the lift table and possibly the weight of the load. This potential energy is sufficient to retract the hydraulic cylinder.

Advantages of hydraulic units

Hydraulic systems have various advantages. Without going into too much detail, we would only like to point out the high power density and spatial separation of power unit and lift table in this regard.

High power density

Hydraulic drives generally have a very high power density. This means that for relatively large force, a relatively small drive is required for a hydraulic drive.
In hydraulic lifting platforms this means that the hydraulic drive for lifting the same load is more compact than, for example, a mechanical drive. This means the drive unit can often be installed in the lift table saving valuable space in production.

Separation of power unit and lift table

Through the use of hydraulic oil as a pressure medium, the unit can be easily separated from the lift table. This can be advantageous for several reasons.

In this way the unit can be placed in a place where it does not take up valuable space. For example, an adjacent room or space a staircase.

There is always some noise pollution associated with the drive unit. Especially when people are working close to the lift table or is constantly nearby. Then you should consider accommodating the drive in a separate room. This increases the quality of the workplace for your employees tremendously.
